Aptana: a free & open-source Web site IDE

Tags: , , , Filed under: Written in Englishhugo @ 9:25

Via Forever Geek, Aptana is a free, open-source, cross-platform Web IDE. It does typing-completion for HTML, CSS, JavaScript, shows you the level of support of each one in browsers – this screenshot shows well how cool it is – and probably other cool things I have not figured out yet. It’s also available as an Eclipse plugin, though they warn about conflicts with WTP.

People seem to compare it with DreamWeaver. Quanta Plus looked closer to DreamWeaver feature-wise then Aptana to my non-expert eyes (I’m not a DreamWeaver user), but it’s limited to KDE environments.

I gave the stand-alone version a try and it is really cool indeed. Version 0.31 does not seem to do character entity references completion, but it’s otherwise impressive. Try it!

John Hodgman’s explanation of net neutrality

Tags: , , , Filed under: Written in Englishhugo @ 11:18

Although the subject of net neutrality is not a funny one (it’s even a scary one), John Hodgman’s presentation of it in the Daily Show is worth watching (you may recognize the guy from recent Apple commercials):

I also found this piece by Jon Stewart:

JavaScript to share a page via social bookmarking services

Tags: , , , Filed under: Written in Englishhugo @ 7:34

Reusing the work from Cal Evens on WP-Notable, I have written a JavaScript snippet to create buttons for easily bookmarking a page. It looks like this:

del.icio.us icon digg icon Spurl.net icon Wists icon Simpy icon Newsvine icon BlinkList icon Furl icon reddit icon FARK icon BlogMarks icon Yahoo! My Web icon smarking icon Ma.gnolia icon Segnalo icon

It’s basically identical to WP-Notable, but can be used on any page instead of being a WordPress plugin.

Get a Mac… en français

Tags: , , , , Filed under: Écrits en françaishugo @ 8:35
