Slow interface

My interface is pretty slow. I have an R2B025 firmware. It seems that newer firmwares are faster.

I wonder if I can update mine? Apparently, one has to go to a Sony Ericsson dealer. Phonecall is a Sony Ericsson representative, and does it for free with the warranty, or for 10¤ without it.

I hove also found a site about firmware upgrades.

Bugs

The headset is not always detected if it is plugged while the screensaver is activated.

Setting time on the T68i

The T68i includes time zone management so that it adjusts the time automatically when one travels. However, one still needs to enter the time at some point, and time can drift, etc. I wonder if it is possible to pick up the time automatically, either from the GSM or GPRS network, or from my computer which gets it via NTP.

I haven't quite figured out how it exactly works though. One needs to setup:

the time.
the time zone.
the daylight savings status.

Then, when I travel, sometimes it changes the time but not the time zone, sometimes it doesn't do anything, sometimes, I need to change the time zone and the time manually, sometimes manually changing the time zone changes the time, sometimes not, etc.

I wish I would find a way to make that work once and for all. Maybe that's a bug.

How to manage contacts?

For now, I beam information from my PDA, but it's not optimal: beaming twice doesn't overwrite but leads to duplicates, etc.

I got it to work with the PL-2303 driver, using the WEXIM's DCU-ET39 cable.

IrDA: haven't managed to make it work yet

I managed to get the phone discovered by my laptop, but failed to talk to the phone.

I kept getting IrLAP, no activity on link! errors, but I found a recipe to get rid of it:

echo 57600 > /proc/sys/net/irda/max_baud_rate

However I couldn't get gnokii to get something from the phone. I read a success story though. I couldn't get minicom to initialize the modem either. There definitely is traffic on the IrDA port though.

openobex managed to talk to the phone, I think.

GPRS connection

Here is how I managed to make it work:

I managed to get pppd to bring up an interface, however I can't seem to receive any data throught it! This is weird since I do get an IP address and DNS servers...

The problem is that I never receive any data. When I disconnect, the phone says: xxxx bytes received, 0 bytes sent.

I finally found the answer. One needs to put:

OK AT+cgdcont=10,"IP","orange.fr"

Note that port 22 is closed in case you are hoping to use ssh. Other ports (80, 25, etc.) are open.

T68i and PDA

I can connect to the Internet with the Orange connection kit.
