Compared to yesterday's concert, where I was seating sucked. Of course, this is all relative, since I was at the 7th row and slightly on the right. So basically, I was hearing more from the right speakers than from the left ones. Well, I guess that yesterday's seats were pretty much ideal.
I had noticed yesterday that even though the ticket was mentioning that cameras were forbidden, you could get one in. Sure enough, I was busted. After some negotiation, I managed to keep my camera and my SmartMedia card that they originally wanted to keep, against the promise that I would not take pictures.
Sara Lee was opening for Ani DiFranco again. Her set was the same has yesterday's, still with her kick-ass guitarist, still playing 6 songs with Julie Wolf on songs 2 and 6 and Ani DiFranco on song 3.
She said that the album which she just released at Righteous Babe Records had lyrics from a lot of her friends, including some by Ani DiFranco. That was the fifth song she played, but I didn't get the title.
Although she had announced the day before that she would play different songs for this concert, she started with four songs she had already played. But it rapidly changed.
Since I was nearer the speaker this time, I could hear more the trumpet and the saxophone. Although her new jazzy sound is great, the orchestration of some of her older songs is in my opinion not that great. For example, the guitar parts that I love in Shameless where in my opinion surrounded by too much other instruments; same for Loom. This newer version of Shy on the other hand was great.
She talked about politics again, about why and when she wrote Everest (when a
friend of her's that she had just met brought her to church on an island where
there was not much to do except dancing), and I was also striked by the number
of I love you Ani
shouted by the audience. Her too.
After 1h35, she went off the stage and came back with Sara Lee's band. I really wanted to see Sara Lee play with her. They played Superfreak with 11 musicians on stage, which was a lot! :-). She then went off the stage to finally come back for a final song, Sick Of Me which was kind of funny with all those fans screaming.
Here is the set list:
She really wanted to use her banjo tonight, since she used it on 5 songs!
This concert was really good too. I think that the results of those two nights for me were that:
