Since I discovered Ani DiFranco in July 1997, I wanted to see her live so bad. Unfortunately, Ani was always touring in the US, and hardly ever in Europe where she's not well known, I must confess. So when I discovered that she was playing two nights in a row in London, I bought tickets for both shows!

On Saturday, Ani seemed a bit tired. It was my first Ani's concert, but I think she did not talk a lot. She even admitted it when somebody asked her to tell a story.

Later in the concert, she explained to us the story behind Hello Birmingham (a doctor killed in his kitchen by a group of anti-abortionist's) and why she had written Angry Anymore which is about her parents.

At the end of the concert, everbody thought she would come back for another song but she didn't. She played 1h35m, finishing with an amazing version of In or Out and Shy. Anyway, the concert was really good.

Here's the set list:

Sunday 21 February 1999

Sunday's concert was even better. She talked a lot. She talked with Julie about Jerry Springer, who is for her a direct reference to the anti-christ (sic).

At one point she began to play Up Up Up Up Up Up but somebody asked her to play Fire Door, and added a pleeeeease after that. So she stopped and played Fire Door, forgetting the lyrics a couple of times. It's a pity she didn't play Up Up Up Up Up Up after it.

The concert ended with an excellent In or Out (even better than Saturday's version) and Everest. She played 1h45m.
